Jasper, Texas is located
approximatley 120 miles Northeast of the the
Houston Intercontinental Airport and 261 miles
from the Dallas, Ft. Worth Airport, at the
intersection of Highways US 190 and US 96.
Lake
Sam Rayburn is
the largest Lake in Texas and one of the greatest
bass fishing lakes in the nation. The lake has
114,500 acres of surface with a shoreline of 560
miles, has a length of approximatley 56 miles and
is located 10 miles north of Jasper, Texas, in East
Texas.
At normal pool level the
lake has a mean sea level elevation of 164.04
feet.
Sam Rayburn Lake has an
abundance of grass, timber, and other bass
holding habitat, with a good forage base of shad
and crawfish. Thousands of Florida Strain bass
have been stocked by the Texas Parks and
Wildlife. The limit is 5 bass at least 14"
in length. The lake is host to the B.A.S.S. and
Bass & and Gals circuits as well as many
others too numerous to mention. Catch and release
is practiced at tournaments as well as sport
fisherman. This preserves an excellent stock of
trophy bass for the future. Large stringers of
bass and bass over 10lb+ are not uncommon.
Ramada Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Best Western
all have very nice and new facilities in Jasper.
Arrangements for condos or lodging is also
available only a few miles from the lake at Sam
Rayburn, Texas. Rayburn Country Club is open to
the public and features a 27 hole golf course
with tennis courts, lodging and a restaurant
facility. Many "non-fisherman and
non-fisherwomen" elect to stay here while
their spouses are fishing.
